Atlante dei Classici Padani

Libera Università di Bolzano

A visual and critical investigation of the urban and social landscape of Northern Italy, focused on the transformations that have taken place over the past fifty years, documenting every development through photographic evidence.

The project “Atlante dei Classici Padanitakes the form of a critical and visual mapping of the transformations that have shaped the urban landscape of Northern Italy over the past fifty years. The work stems from a field investigation during which over a thousand photographs were collected, each geolocated and carefully selected to provide a systematic view of the context.

The editorial project focuses on architectural and infrastructural elements built in recent decades, deliberately excluding natural or historical subjects. Topics include excessive urbanization, the proliferation of shopping centers, roundabouts, prefabricated buildings, eccentric monuments, massage parlors, and other icons of the contemporary landscape.

Atlante dei Classici Padani does more than merely document the territory, it invites a critical reflection on the urban, economic, and cultural decisions that have shaped the built environment. Through an approach that combines art, design, and journalism, the project highlights the contradictions and peculiarities of a constantly evolving territory, encouraging dialogue about the relationship between space, identity, and society.
