Scritto nel paesaggio
Libera Università di Bolzano
A digital platform that represents an interdisciplinary exploration of the material and immaterial testimonies left by the conflict in the landscape of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
The research project “Scritto nel paesaggio. Luoghi, tracce e memorie della Prima Guerra Mondiale nelle Dolomiti di Sesto” offers an interdisciplinary reading of the landscape of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, not only as a natural space but also as a living archive of historical memory. Promoted by the Cultural Heritage and Cultural Production Platform of the Free University of Bolzano, the project involved scholars from various fields, including archaeologists, historians, sociologists, and artists, in a collective and participatory investigation.
The main goal was to document and interpret the physical traces of the conflict, such as trenches, tunnels, barracks, and military infrastructure still present in the mountain landscape, and to relate them to the oral memories and family narratives of the Sesto community, which was deeply affected by the war events.
The results of the work culminated in an exhibition that offered an immersive journey through archival documents, historical photographs, multimedia materials, and works created by students from the Faculty of Design and Arts.
Through this approach, the project contributes to a critical reflection on the role of the landscape as a witness to history and as a space for shared memory, promoting greater awareness of cultural heritage and its contemporary implications.
