Body Parasites
Libera Università di Bolzano
What if we could transform health diagnostics? Scan our bodies from the outside to know what’s going on inside. A speculative project that makes you think about how medicine is changing through the use of AI.
“Body Parasites” is a project in speculative design that investigates the relationship between technology, the human body, and invasive organisms. Using the concept of biological parasites as a metaphor, the project explores how technologies can infiltrate personal space, affecting the perception and experience of the body. The focus is on the impact of technologies, both biological and digital, in altering our experience of the self.
The project led to the creation of a prototype of a 3D patch with a coil and chip, which allows monitoring of certain health parameters. This device, which interacts with a dedicated app, allows immediate consultation of health-related data. Although similar devices exist, such as disposable sensors, this approach stands out for its environmental friendliness, intuitiveness, and lower cost.
The research also raises important ethical and philosophical questions about the future of physical and digital identities, questioning the role of technologies in transforming our relationship with the body and our privacy.
