Artificial Architecture
EPFL Swiss Federal Institute of Technology
An exhibition exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and architectural design, featuring immersive installations and interactive prototypes, inviting reflection on AI’s role in shaping spaces and questioning its ethical and creative implications.
The exhibition “Artificial Architecture: Machines and Dystopian Dreams” explored the fusion of architecture and artificial intelligence, highlighting both the potential and the challenges that AI introduces into the design process.
Through immersive projections, interactive prototypes, and a monumental installation called Design Brain, the exhibition offered an overview of new ways to conceive architectural space. Design Brain in particular served as the centerpiece of the show: a dynamic structure simulating the brain activity of a design system based on deep neural networks, generating a multitude of architectural proposals in real time.
Artificial Architecture raised fundamental questions: Can machines create meaningful architecture? Are they capable of understanding concepts such as typology, form, and genius loci? What are the ethical consequences of delegating creative control to AI? The exhibition invited visitors to delve into these issues, offering a platform for critical reflection on the future of architecture in the era of artificial intelligence.
